If four seasons, beautiful scenery, peace and quiet, and delicious food tickle your fancy, then this blog is for you. Upstate New York is just a quick jaunt away (under four hours, depending on where you’re headed. And no, Westchester is not considered Upstate).

What is one thing we must do, see, or experience while in Upstate New York?

During your time Upstate, hop in the car and head up to Adirondack Park – specifically Old Forge. This stretch of New York is dotted by the Fulton Chain of Lakes and packs so much charm in a single town that your Instagram feed might quite literally explode.

Plan your trip in late September/early October for optimal leaf peeping (because let’s be honest, none of us are above a great foliage pic).

What is one place you need to go to eat/drink while in your hometown and what should one order?

While visiting Upstate NY, you MUST try the chicken riggies. Made semi-famous by Food Network personality Rachael Ray, this regional dish of rigatoni, peppers, and chicken is a favorite amongst tourists and locals alike.

My personal favorite is Delmonico’s in Utica, NY.

Where is one place to “play” in Upstate NY?

The FX Matt Brewing Co. is the 15th-largest producer of beer in the US and home to all Saranac and Utica Club beers, in addition to several craft sodas. Daily tours and tastings are available to the public.

Each Thursday during the summer, the brewery is home to a block party called “Saranac Thursdays” in which folks enjoy the beautiful New York weather over seasonal brews and live music.

What is one activity we must partake in while visiting Upstate New York?

There’s plenty of activity to partake in and there’s something for everyone. If you’re a nature buff, I highly recommend hiking the high peaks of the Adirondacks, boating on one of the many lakes in the area, or spelunking the caves of Howe Caverns.

Sports enthusiasts can head to Cooperstown to take in the sights at the Baseball Hall of Fame and history nerds will love the fact that Upstate NY played a vital part in the Revolutionary War. Tour Fort Stanwix or the Herkimer Home, to name a few!

If nothing else,  while in Upstate NY don’t miss…

Come for the beautiful sights, stay for the food. From Italian and Polish specialties to seafood and Vietnamese cuisine, Central New York offers a wide variety of dishes to satisfy the pickiest of eaters.
